Head Trauma

Trauma in the small animal patient can be a challenge. Once the primary trauma has been addressed the secondary damage can be just as detrimental. The challenges with treating increased intracranial pressure can be the lack of ability to truly measure it. We will discuss the causes the pathology behind these types of trauma and the specialised nursing care required to treat these special cases.

Alison graduated from Towson State University with a bachelor’s degree in Animal Behavior and earned certification in emergency and critical care in 2000. Alison has served on the board of AVECCT as a member at large and on the application committee.
Alison is the Co-founder/owner of Four Paws Consulting LLC an education based veterinary consultant. Over the years Alison has published many articles, frequently on pain; as well as authored a chapter on pain in the ICU and the AAHA pain guidelines. Recently she developed the Feline Handling certification course for Cattledog publishing as well.

Currently Ali is the Education and development coordinator at Hickory Veterinary Hospital in Plymouth Meeting PA. Her favorite topics/areas are anything feline, osteoarthritis, analgesia and low stress handling. In the clinic you can usually find giving the patients cat nip and treats. She spends most of her free time outside with her pit bull and her cats.
