Meet the Instructor
Erica Brandt, CVT, VTS (ECC)
Erica started working with
animals after school during her junior year of high school. She attended
Colorado Mountain College and received her Associates of Science in Veterinary
Technology in 2001. She started working as a Certified Veterinary Technician in
a small general practice in rural Utah.
In 2003 she moved to Boise, Idaho to be closer to family and decided to apply for an opening at an emergency hospital, Animal Emergency and Referral Center of Idaho. Suddenly her passion for helping animals was sprinkled with some of that ER sauce! She continued to work in the ER and landed herself in a leadership role in the first year. She continued to improve her skills and build her team from 2003 to 2018 in the emergency department. Erica passed her VTS exam in 2009 to become one of the first VTS (ECC) in Idaho.
She served as the president of the Idaho Society of Veterinary Technicians and Assistants for ten years. In 2018 she decided to take on a new challenge, the surgery and anesthesia department. What a fun change that was! She again grew her skills in surgery and anesthesia and built an amazing team. In 2023 opportunity appeared again in Erica’s path. She is now the Hospital Director at WestVet in Meridian, Idaho. Not bad for that girl that liked to take care of pets after school!
As you can tell, Erica is passionate about emergency medicine, anesthesia, surgery, feline medicine, leadership and the profession of Veterinary Technology. When not helping pets, teaching, or mentoring her amazing team, she enjoys anything outdoors with her husband Curtis and her two children Sean and Alexandra.
