Crunching Numbers: Medical Math Demystified (RACE 1.0 hrs)
Math anxiety can hinder our ability to effectively treat patients. Tips on working through math anxiety and gaining confidence in this area are discussed. A brief review of math conversions and medical math concepts is followed by a review of common formulas used to calculate drug doses. The session progresses to a discussion on adding additives to fluids and the utilization of Buretrols for complex cases in the ICU.

Meet the Instructor
Valerie Garuccio, BS, CVT, VTS (ECC)
Valerie earned her associate degree in veterinary technology at Manor College. Since graduating, she has worked in small animal general and specialty practices in both New York and New Jersey. In 2011, Valerie was accepted into the Academy of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Technicians & Nurses (AVECCTN), earning her VTS title.
In 2018, Valerie earned her bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership at CSU-Global while developing training and retention programs as her hospital's learning & development specialist.
Valerie has been in various leadership and development roles throughout her career with a recent focus on credentialing and academic programs. She is a certified RECOVER instructor and Fear Free Elite professional. She has also served on her state association’s board and is active in the veterinary community.
Valerie has had the opportunity to lecture and publish internationally. She enjoys speaking on evidence-based medicine, CPR, metabolic disorders, advanced critical care, training, and leadership topics.
