Meet the Instructor

Ashleigh Walsh, Dip.VN, VTS (ECC)

Ashleigh is a registered veterinary nurse specialist in emergency and critical care from Auckland, New Zealand (NZ).  She graduated with a Diploma in Veterinary Nursing from Unitec in Auckland in 2009. Then, she moved to sunny Brisbane, Australia, where she worked in small animal GP clinics.

Ashleigh became a practice manager before discovering emergency medicine and jumping full-time to the dark side in ECC, working at the Brisbane Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Services (BVECCS) in 2011.

Ashleigh moved back to beautiful NZ in 2020 and is now the primary critical care nurse at the Animal Referral Centre Central. There, she is responsible for the day-to-day running of the ICU, providing CPR training hospital-wide and in-house education, amongst other tasks and a sprinkle of presenting to the NZ veterinary community.

Ashleigh enjoys all aspects of ECC medicine, though she is particularly fond of respiratory, anaesthesia, sepsis, CPR and fear-free nursing. She passed the VTS ECC exam in 2022 and is the first (and currently the only) VTS ECC to work in New Zealand. In 2023, Ashleigh completed RECOVER initiatives CPR instructor training, making her one of two RECOVER CPR instructors available in NZ.

Outside of clinical work, Ashleigh is a member of the New Zealand Allied Veterinary Professional Regulatory Council, NZ's voluntary veterinary nurse/technician regulatory body, serving on the registration committee.

Ashleigh can often be found outside of work exploring stunning NZ (especially the coromandel) with her mischievous spaniel cross Poppy and camera, scuba diving or snorkelling, seeking out live music or with her nose in a good book. She has recently discovered a love of ziplining (despite being petrified of heights) and is a lifelong member of the "fast talkers club".
